Performance Review:
I’ve handled several different type XVa swords including Arms and Armor’s Black Prince, and several of Albion’s earlier type XVa variants. I believe I can safely say that this sword is the easiest handling of all the type XVas that it has been my pleasure to hold. It is a very quick sword with outstanding point control. It is also a relatively light sword, I think that it might have a harder time with armor than some of its more robust counterparts but I think it would be an excellent sword for use against lightly armored opponents. I think that this particular sword would excel in modern practice against light targets. Most of this is supposition on my part, it was a customer’s sword therefore I did not have the opportunity to actually cut with it.
Appearance:
The Talhoffer that I handled was a good example of Albion’s attention to detail and quality control. The blade was nicely polished and evenly ground, the fittings were well executed with no blemishes and the grip was nicely wrapped and tightly bound.
Conclusion:
This is a very nice example of a type XVa and I completely recommend it to those who wish to practice period martial arts.
