Performance Review:
As with all the other Albion XVas and related swords I’ve handled this one performs extremely well. It tracks in the thrust and is light enough to be easily wielded in one hand or two. Truthfully I wonder if it is stout enough to use against an armored opponent it’s very light and fast but not what I would call an impactful sword. Just the thing for destroying your opponent with your Tolhoffer moves in unarmored combat. In battle you might want something with a little more robust.
Appearance:
It’s been a while since I’ve written an Albion review but their aesthetics haven’t changed in the least. They are precise, well fitted and tight in all regards. The grips are crisp and well wrapped and dyed well. This particular version of the Albion XVa is dubbed “The Mercenary.” It is plain in decoration but elegant in form and function.
Conclusion:
This is a beautiful, well made, if fairly plain sword. It’s completely suitable for reenactment, target cutting and I suspect unarmored combat. It might be a bit light were you to suit up for a medieval battle or for cutting against hard targets.
