Performance Review:
This is the first Cervenka sword I have worked on in many years. I’m happy to say that Mr. Cervenka hasn’t lost a step. It’s hard for me to quantify how well this sword handled since it was a left handed model and therefore felt weird to me. That said it obviously wasn’t heavy and although it was a little forward weighted it was not prohibitively so. All in all I think that Mr. Cervenka has upped his game in the performance department since last I saw some of his work.
Appearance:
As per the usual Mr. Cervenka’s grip work was absolutely stelllar. I don’t know how he does such a good job with a wire wrap but he does. The cat’s head or more accurately lion’s head pommel in this case was also well done. The work on the basket was good, although not the most complicated shiavona basket by any stretch it was well executed and the thumb ring was nicely done. The bald finish on this example was a bit rough, with some visible file marks etc. The fit between grip and blade were nice and tight with no notable gaps.
Conclusion: In the last many years Vladimir Cervenka seems to have upped his game in the performance department while maintaining his cutlering abilities with respect to fittings and grips. This blade was still a little rough although perfectly serviceable.
