Performance Review: The statistics really tell the story with this sword when it comes to performance. When I looked at it coming out of the box I thought that this sword was the Talhoffer, and indeed when compared to a picture of the Talhoffer the similarities are very apparent. However, when swinging this sword, it also becomes readily apparent that this sword is not the Talhoffer but it's shorter, sturdier, slightly slower cousin. That's not to say that this is a slow sword, it's not, it's just not lightning in hand like the Talhoffer. It does seem to be a more robust blade however and not quite as fragile as the Talhoffer especially in the area of the tip. I think that this sword may have been designed for someone who wanted a Talhoffer that would strike with some serious authority and in that Albion has certainly done a fine job.

Appearance: As previously noted at first blush this sword looks very like the Talhoffer. This particular model was nicely done. The blade was straight with no ripples or grind marks, the Albion stamp on the blade was well executed and even. The cross and pommel showed no pitting or casting marks. On this example the hilt furniture was blued to a nice dark bluish back color that served to accent the red hilt wrap that was also nice and tight. All in all this is a very nice appearing sword and very striking in the colors chosen.

Conclusion: This sword can be thought of as the Talhoffer's sturdy cousin. Not quite as quick as the Talhoffer but striking with a trifle more authority and appearing to be a bit more robust. As with the other Next Generation Albion products I've reviewed the fit and finish on this sword is absolutely outstanding. If one is in the market for a type XVa sword this one is certainly worth a look.
